Today, CECS operates as a modern, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 compliant laboratory, delivering accurate, defensible, and regulator-ready environmental and occupational hygiene services.

Our Heritage

The roots of CECS began in 1954 with the establishment of the Transvaal and Orange Free State Collieries Dust and Ventilation Laboratories.

In 1981, the department was officially renamed Collieries Environmental Control Service (CECS). Over the decades, the laboratory evolved within the Chamber of Mines structure before being transferred to Silver Solutions in December 2020, retaining SANAS accreditation under a new accreditation number (T0970).

This heritage gives CECS a rare advantage — a deep institutional understanding of mining environmental control systems that spans generations.
